LASIK & Refractive Surgery |
|
There are many forms of refractive surgery to permanently correct your vision. The most popular surgery is LASIK - a surgical procedure which reshapes the cornea with a laser. It can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. See a video about LASIK in our EyeMotion video center.
Another form of refractive surgery is called phakic IOL implantation. This involves implanting a lens behind the cornea, but in front of the iris. This technique is an option for those patients who are too highly nearsighted for LASIK.
Finally, clear lens extraction is another technique used for patients who don’t qualify for LASIK. It involves removing the crystalline lens of the eye and replacing it with a plastic implant. (Basically, it is the same procedure used for cataract patients- but with a clear lens instead of a cloudy lens). The lens that is implanted can be single vision or multifocal - and there are pros and cons on both of these choices.
No matter which surgical technique you feel would be best for you, let us help you walk through the maze of decisions you will need to make. Which procedure, which surgeon, the list goes on and on. We have a long history of surgical comanagement and will be happy to answer your questions about refractive surgery.
